Starting in January, every Thursday and Friday I got to spend my afternoons working with kids in their Engineering Classes and work on influencing them to pursue the field of engineering.

White Oak Elementary School

Thursday - Friday

Students were able to design and build a miniature robot.  They were graded on creativity, class time management, and how they used their engineering knowledge to build the most efficient robot.

Students spent one week building Catapults in their Engineering Class.  When everyone was finished we tested them to see who had the best Catapult.

Students were able to design and build their own Egg Drop Project.  They spend one week trying to figure out how to build a project that would keep the egg "safe" during its impact.  We tested the Egg Drop Project at the end of the week and the students whose egg didn't break were given an award.

Egg Drop Projects

Students were given resistors, wires, batteries, and lightbulbs and had to figure out how to build their circuit in order to make their lightbulb light up.  This project, although very challenging for the students, gave them the opportunity to test and problem solve their way to the solution.

Aircraft Projects

Students creatively designed and built a small model of their aircraft.  They were required to name their aircraft and design features that would make it safe for passengers and possible to fly.

Below are Projects that I worked with the kids on.
3-D City

Students were given up to two weeks to design, model, and build a three dimensional city.  They used their "Engineering" minds to build a city that would benefit the citizens within.  Places like a school, doctor's office, dentist, movie theatre, and restaurant were required.
